Pragmatist/Activist
There's a particular task in work that I've been avoiding like the plague. It's not rocket science, it's just inputting manual payments into the system but, if you've ever used Oracle software, you'll understand my retiscence.
Then, Wednesday, at my Management Studies course our tutor told us all about "learning styles". According to these two guys, Honey and Mumford, there are four styles in which we learn as adults and our own particular style can be determined by completing a questionaire designed by them.
So I completed the questionaire on the train, on the way home and it seems I'm a Pragmatist/Activist....
... getting down to brass tacks, what that means is I'm a person who's outlook is: It's a dirty job but someone's got to do it and that someone might as well be me.
So the following day, armed with this new vision of myself, I dragged my pile of payments from where I'd cunningly hidden it (behind my waste paper basket), faced the screen, took a deep breath and picked up the first one from the top of the pile. Within five minutes, I was picking up the next and, two days later, the mountain has reduced to a molehill, with still 3 weeks to go until year end.
It's the oddest thing but it seems being told I'm pragmatic, made me pragmatic. Finding out that my attitude is "well, I'd better get on with it then" made me say to myself, "well, I'd better get on with it then" and get on with it I did.
Nice one H&M, any more golden nuggets you'd like to share?

Nah , it's just not possible, is it?
I was just lying in my bath contemplating my bathroom walls. Ugh! They look as though whoever lived here before me mixed ground glass into paint then whopped it on, any old how. In short, they are a nightmare.
For years, I've been masking their ugliness with that tiling-on-a-roll stuff. Very effective but bloody expensive to replace.
Right now, I'm wishing my son's college course would progress at a somewhat faster pace - he's only just had his first lesson on skimming - it could be years.
Then it occurred to me, as all stupid ideas eventually find their way into my brain, you can learn anything on the internet. Yes, I know, how stupid! But what if? Seriously, why not?
Nah, it's just not possible ...... is it?
hehe We'll see .....

A Sleeping Bag's the Order of the Day
I'm sure I've mentioned this before but I've had central heating for the 15 years I've lived in this flat but never learned how to switch it on.
Silly I know but, as I'm on the top floor of three, the borrowed heat from below is normally enough to make it pretty mild even before I put the fire on.
Right now we're having what we Brits describe as a "cold snap". A pretty good description coz that wind really bites. So I'm all zipped up in my sleeping bag (actually it's one I commandeered from one of my son's friends), snug as a bug and all that. I have my feet up and I've poured a glass of wine and ....
.... oh damn, I need the loo!

First Knight
Oldfrog, I know I have already thanked you but I'm going to do it again.
You have been a guide, a mentor, an advisor and a shoulder to cry on. You have supported me and taught me so much.
This gift though, it means so much, I don't think even you realise how much. I just wish I had a way to repay you.
Thank you.
