Time is relative
I've been thinking about these comments here and here and, for a moment, I considered allowing anonymous comments. I decided against it, for now. I'll think more on this later.
However, in order to respond to said comments, I had to enter my uname, email and URL - in other words, I had to go through the same process as anyone would who wanted to leave a comment here.
Typekey registration takes a couple of minutes and is required only once, leaving you free to comment on any MT or Typepad blog whenever you chose so what's the big deal? Do you really not have enough time to do even that?
If you enjoy reading and commenting on other people's blogs, those few minutes are surely worth it.

Just surfed on in, nice job on your blog. I've been in the same position and would tend to disagree with you, were it not for the huge number of spam comments I've had to delete. I don't think people realize what a nuisance that can become.
Still, you don't want to alienate people who might want to comment but haven't already registered for TypeKey. I use MovableType myself, and have found a fair compromise by allowing anonymous comments but requiring approval before they show up on the site. Might not be so practical for blogs with really heavy traffic, though.

OK, now that's all sorted out.... thanks for your suggestion. It wouldn't hurt to try it. I can always revert back to registered commenters if spam becomes an issue.
Why not eh? :-)

Right, sorry about that before. It's a little ironic that I was spamming you with a comment about spamming. ;)
By the way, regarding your earlier post, I too have often wondered what's up with blogs and cats. There must be a million of these things out there! Hmm, I'm smelling a new google entry coming on... (trackback coming soon :-) )

I'll look out for that. I've allowed anonymous comments (with a proviso) as per your suggestion. I'll let you know how it goes.

IMHO anyone who is too busy to register is too busy to give more than a couple of seconds thought to your blog so their comments would be of dubious value.

have to disagree with OldGuy's sweeping generalization there.
i intensely dislike the Typekey system, and i'm not alone. it's like Blogger's "register or remain a lurker" comment system of old -- it's clunky, useless, and hinders interaction.
so many people were complaining about blogger's old commenting system that they altered it, as they knew that people would rather abandon it altogether than have to register for something as unimportant as a comment system.
i can see the same happening with typekey.
