Craze or Crazy?
This new "craze" was featured in a TV documentary, I didn't see it but it was the main topic of conversation in work today. The newest teenage fad infesting the UK is Happy Slapping. If you've never heard of it, you're lucky. If you have, I can only pray you've never been a victim!
Happy Slapping is carried out by groups of teenagers who "slap" unsuspecting kids or adults while capturing the attacks on camera phones.
These "slaps" are by no means gentle and recent attacks have become more menacing and violent as the craze spreads throughout the country. In last night's examples one man's eardrum burst from the force of the slap. In extreme cases, the slaps have been replaced by punches and kicks.
How sick does an individual have to be to get pleasure from this pastime? What is missing from the lives of these kids that they have to fill them with wanton attacks on complete strangers?
What sickens me most is the tale of the lone female victim who was "slapped" on a train full of people, not one of whom came to her aid. Are we so scared of our children that we will sit back and pretend this isn't happening?
What kind of world are we living in?

Part of the problem is that our kids used to be scared of us, now they're not.
Most adults won't intervene when teens do stuff like this because they're afraid they'll be the next victim.

Sad but true. Faced with a gang of abusive teenagers, even adults would be wise to do nothing. But a whole train load of people???

This is surely something that can spread easily in a disarmed society. Random attacks just for fun are much more risky when the victim might be carrying a gun and take it more seriously. Which would be a _good_ thing, BTW.

A good thing? Really? Can that ever be a good thing, I don't see it. :(
