Bachelorette? What the hell is a bachelorette?
Second time today I've seen this word...
Spinster is the word you're looking for. Single woman will do if that smacks too much of left-on-the-shelf for you.
I know the language needs new words to be coined in order for it to grow and develop but they should enrich it not dumb it down.
Sorry, rant over...

Yeah but nobody would watch a reality show called "The Spinster" Liz, so they came up with "The Bachelorette" and millions of people tuned into it ;-)

Some of these girls were about as smart as a kitchen utensil.

I've only heard the term bachelorette when referring to the bachelorette party. Otherwise I've never heard women being called this.

I'm SO with you, lilliebet. "Bachelorette" is an entirely frivolous word. "Spinster" implies intentional, purposeful singleness.
Of course, no self-respecting spinster would ever waste her time dallying with vapid men on reality TV. :-)

I don't think the term's new at all. In the 1960's The Dating Game was on TV. They used the term .. but what was that about you saying not 'dumb it down'. Oh well.

I don't know whether we saw that in the UK Dennis, I'm far too young to remember (well almost. lol)
